Introducing Rain Brothers' new automatic downspout diverter and DIY rain barrel kit for use with rainwater harvesting systems.
We at Rain Brothers, LLC have been designing, constructing, and installing rainwater harvesting systems -- both residential- and commercial-scale -- in the Ohio Region for over five years, and we have used virtually every rainwater downspout diverter on the market. With the diverters on the market, there are recurring problems, including:
1) Difficult installation
2) Insufficient inlet size into the barrel/tank
3) Insufficient overflow, causing diverter to back up drainage
4) Working only with the smallest downspouts (i.e., 2"x3")
Our new diverter addresses these issues and offers a thoughtful, high-quality, affordable solution.
For under $30, you get:
*Three hole saws (for drilling/installing valves and downspout diverter)
*3/4" gate valve/garden hose valve
*3/4" drain nipple with cap
*Two threaded rubber grommets for water-tight and easy installation of valve and drain plug
*1-1/2" rubber grommet for water-tight inlet into tank/barrel
*3' of flexible hose to link barrel/tank to downspout diverter
*Rubber "Flexi-Fit" downspout diverter (works with 2"x3", 3"x4", 3" round, and 5" commercial downspouts)
*One "do not drink water" label for your new rainwater harvesting system
Kit also includes a winterizing cap (see product picture above) for quick and easy winterization of your downspout.
Flexi-Fit Downspout Diverter installs in three easy steps:
1) Drill hole in downspout (hole saw included in kit)
2) Insert diverter and fasten diverter to downspout with included self-tap screws
3) Attach fill hose to diverter and into barrel, and start collecting rain!

This was a very easy and quick installation. The instructions were very easy to follow and it is great that all the out of the ordinary tools are included. I spent quite a bit more time building a barrel stand and making sure it was level (which is not part of the diverter kit). Two critiques. One, there are a lot of typos in the instructions, so hopefully the next printing will address those. Second, it would be nice when you are buying multiple installation kits to have the option to leave out the hole saws. I now have 3 sets of these hole saws. Other than that a good product.

We've had 2 barrels sitting around for months because we were unsure about how to handle the gutter/diverter issue. When I saw this video on YouTube I figured it was so idiot proof that even we could manage it - and I was right. Ordered two, they came quickly and we got them installed with minimal fuss. Great product and price, and so far they are working well.

Wow...did not need anything more than what was in the kit. So easy to install ...I did it in the rain. Will purchase another kit.

My son used this kit as part of his Boy Scout Eagle project. We also put one in at our house.
The thought of cutting the downspout, as other kits have you do, scared us. This kit just needs a hole to install the diverter and you can close it up for the winter. Might need to put a gutter guard on if you have debris from trees on the roof. This system could clog, but that's an easy fix too.

This was as easy as shown in video and does an excellent job of capturing rain water. Be very careful where you drill hole in down spout. If ift is a little low the barrel will not fill. I found it best to use a closed barrel system and drill hole a little high.

I've already installed 2 rain barrels using a $40 manual diverter. During a decent rain, the 60 gallon rain barrels will fill up in just a few minutes. Then they either over flow out the inlet as well as the overflow (which makes for a flood) or you go out in the rain and switch over the diverter. Not to mention the mess you make out of your downspout system. So I ran into this video on YouTube demonstrating Rain Bros DIY Rain Barrel Diverter. It looked relatively simple to install and had everything you needed and more. Ordered Tuesday night, arrived Friday morning, installed in less than 30 minutes! 5 star materials, 5 star instructions, 5 star kit!!! Couldn't get to the computer fast enough to order 2 more!
